Those who are opening a dollar store are always looking for operational strategies that help to reduce the cash invested in the start-up and ongoing operation of their stores. An area of focus is often the merchandise inventory level that is maintained. One strategy for reducing the amount of inventory that is maintained when opening a dollar store is to use suppliers as your warehouse.

You must remain focused on maintaining minimum inventory levels. When opening a dollar store if the right tools and systems are in-place suppliers can actually become the warehouse for your business. How To Cope With The End Of A Relationship

If you have recently gone through a relationship breakup, you may feel as if you will never recover and move on. While your heart may not heal as quickly as you would like, there are things you can do that will help you feel better and head in the right direction. Just as you would find in any difficult situation where you lose someone, there will be a grieving process and in order to truly move on and be healthy, you are going to have to move through each of the steps at your own pace. Begin by taking action, which may seem like the most difficult thing in the world. After a healthy amount of time feeling angry and sad, make an effort to change how you are feeling. If you are living in a space you shared with the person, or you have a number of their items in your personal space, get the things out as soon as possible. If giving the items back to the person is not immediately possible, move the items to storage. If you need a great deal of space; consider using a 3PL or public warehouse. Each will provide you with the space you need to begin moving on.

Maybe all you need to break out of your rut is an official chance to say goodbye to your relationship. Sometimes when relationships end, the finale is one-sided. You may be too emotionally distraught to realize what is happening at the time. Once you have had time to think things through, you may realize there are things you would have liked to have said. Creating a ceremony following a breakup gives you a chance to do so without repercussions. You can put your thoughts on paper and then rip up or burn what you have written. The important thing is getting them out. At the same time, take the various items you have accumulated throughout the relationship and burn those things too. If you are uncomfortable getting rid of everything, save one thing and pack it away for when you are experiencing less pain.

When the time comes to move forward with your life, you have a variety of things you can do to create a sense of purpose. Consider enrolling in classes and learning something new. Putting your focus on something else is a great way to heal a broken heart.

If you lack the funds or the motivation to attend a class, consider beginning a new hobby. This way you can commit as much time as you want to the hobby without having to worry about attending a class. You can also control how much money you invest in the hobby, even though many people go all out and start a new hobby with enthusiasm that hits their wallet hard.

Finally, schedule some quality time with friends. If you have spent time in a relationship, chances are good you were not focusing on your non-romantic relationships as much as you could. If you use your newly found free time to reconnect with friends, they will help you get through your recent breakup.

Determining Whether it is Worth Joining a Warehouse Club

The economy has caused many families to become incredibly frugal with their money. The question is whether it is worth joining a warehouse club such as Sam's Club, Costco, or BJ's Club. Some families decide to cancel the memberships to save money while others question if it is worth joining or not.

How do they decide if it is worth it? The best way is to really compare prices and let the whole family take part. Decide the type of items you would purchase at the warehouse. The purchases could be just your non perishables or your food only or a combination.

When making the decision about the items to purchase some things should be taken into consideration. Make sure the warehouse location is close enough that it is not going to be an ordeal to get there. If it is too far, you will never go and your current grocery store will always win. Even if it is 5-10 miles away, for many that is too long especially if there is heavy traffic normally during the time they would go.

Take your storage availability into account. The non perishable items need a place with easy access to retrieve when you run out. If you will be purchasing items that can be frozen, take a look at your freezer and the amount of room available.

Once the decision concerning items to be purchased is made, go to your regular grocery store and write down the items you will be purchasing, price and quantity included. Get the kids involved and let them keep track. They will enjoy doing the math at the end to find out which store offers a better deal. Only keep track of items you purchase on a consistent basis. Items such as trash bags, laundry detergent, toilet bowl cleaner, toilet paper, Kleenex or napkins. Next, go to the warehouse even if you are not a member. Many warehouse clubs allow you to look around before you join. Take the time to compare the same items with price and quantity. Stick to the items you looked at your grocery store.

If you find it is cheaper to purchase at the warehouse, then decide how often you would purchase those items. Is the savings enough to justify the membership cost?

It is easy to get caught up in the quantity and variety the warehouse stores have to offer. Take a list with you just like you do the grocery store and stick to it. It is easy to buy more than you planned and then you are defeating the purpose of saving. Obviously, occasionally there will be great deals on items that were not on your list, but make sure you really need them and have a place to store them.

Lessons Learned From "HGTV's - The Stagers"

I was curious, as I'm sure the rest of you were when they announced this new program airing on HGTV on July 22nd, if it would be a true depiction of what the Staging life is like. I would have to say that it's probably the most realistic of the shows that are out there today, but still doesn't tell the whole story. Regardless, here are some things that I feel you could learn from the show.

1) Have a plan for your project. I'm actually a little shocked by the lack of planning and utter chaos that is depicted. Maybe it's just for TV drama to make it more interesting, but realistically, if that's how you are running your business, you NEED TO TAKE CONTROL immediately. My recommendation to you is a) always see the property beforehand, b) take before photos, c) map out plans for each room so that choosing inventory is more targeted and streamlined, and d) create a list of staging inventory needed. My Ultimate Staging Success Blueprint has all the tools to help you do just that. There is absolutely no reason why most projects should take more than a day. I would say 97% of the straight "staging" projects I've worked on was completed within 1 day. Anything that took more was because of the size of the project (5000+ sf home or multiple units) OR if there were delays on other related projects. When I first started my staging business, I was running back to the warehouse to pick up things we forgot or shopping at the last minute because we didn't have what we needed, and I'm not saying that you won't still have to do this occasionally, but you want to avoid these delays as much as you can and the best way to do that is to have a plan going into every single project.

2) Do be tactful with your clients. The Designers on "The Stagers" are good at keeping their opinions to a minimum in front the client. Some of the other Staging shows seem to enjoy poking fun at how awful a home looks. I'm all for being truthful and honest with your clients, but being tactful will definitely earn you more brownie points and help you maintain your professional image. Most of the time, they already know their property is not in "top selling" condition, that's why they called you. There's no reason to make a mockery of the situation. Perhaps again, the criticisms voiced are for ratings, but most real life people would not be too thrilled with you if that's how you approached them.

3) Do Keep your Inventory Organized. This is always a challenge for any Staging Company. It's a never ending struggle with having "too much" when it all comes back and not having enough when you're super busy. The Dekora warehouse featured on the show is enormous compared to probably 99% of the staging firms out there. Most of us do not have the luxury of a 10,000 sf space with seemingly unlimited inventory available. I started off with storing my inventory in our 1 car garage and back stairs when my husband & I lived in a townhouse. We eventually graduated to one large storage unit, then two, and finally to an 1100 square foot warehouse. Then there was the challenge of keeping the zones organized - linens, kitchen accessories, bath accessories, floral/greenery, silk trees, lamps, chairs, art, etc. We toyed with the idea of building shelving so that we could capitalize on the vertical space in the warehouse, but then there was the safety issue with our team members going up and down. I can't say we ever really perfected "Staging the Warehouse", but one thing we always tried to do was unpack after a destage and put everything back into their respective zones so that it was easy to pull inventory for the next project. The more disciplined you are in this area, the more sane you can remain. I actually designated Fridays or a day when there were no Staging Projects scheduled as Warehouse days - time to reorganize, clean and repair inventory.

4) Do Keep in Mind Who the Prospective Buyers will be and Design the Staging Accordingly. This skill will set you apart from just being a "wannabe" stager to being a true Real Estate Partner and a Professional Staging Designer. There are many Real Estate Agents who are guilty of this as well. They don't keep in mind who the target audience is - who would be your prospective buyer? Is it a young family? Are they empty nesters? Are they young bachelors/bachelorettes? These considerations must be top of mind when designing your Staging. It's not about just adding artwork and putting furniture into a room. The personality that is added with accessories should portray the type of lifestyle that one would want to live in that home. This is one thing that the Designers on the show are good at exploring and working with.

5) Build a Staging Team. This is something all of you should work towards. Just as on the show, they have the Staging Boss, Senior Stager, Home Stager, Staging Assistants, Movers, Handymen, etc., so should you. My role was a cross between the Staging Boss and the Senior Stager as I was never completely hands-off. Building a team to work with not only makes each project more efficient, it also makes it a lot of more fun because you can bounce creative ideas off of one another. I've had people on my team at all levels. Movers who just helped move inventory to and from the staging sites (mostly large pieces of furniture so we can totally relate to the sofa not fitting in the elevator or door - I dreaded getting those calls), Staging interns who actually did hands-on staging work, but can be the perfect team member to help wipe down furniture, clean mirrors and art, iron bedding, pump up airbeds, etc. I also strongly believe there should be a Team Lead so that there is someone who is in charge on-site, otherwise it would be too chaotic.

Here are few other tips depicted on the show that you should definitely keep in mind for your own businesses (if you're not already doing so):

* Incorporate feng shui principles in your staging (in some parts of the country, THIS IS HUGE - like So. Cal)

* Don't forget to address curb appeal issues

* Paint over unattractive, unmarketable wall colors

* Add dramatic art and accessories for high impact

* Bring rooms back to its originally intended purpose

* Don't fight with what's not working, like trying to use the

homeowner's things

* Use scale appropriate furniture

Finding Great Deals on Business Gifts

Finding great deals on business gifts, as with everything in life, takes some time and effort. However, with so many promotional products and distributors out there now, they are getting much easier to locate! There is no mystery to finding great deals on each and every business gift you want to offer to your clients and customers.

The first step to finding great deals on business gifts is look on all promotional distribution websites or catalogs you receive for the "clearance", "discounted" or "discontinued" items. These items are not cheaply made, but are possibly items that are sitting in a warehouse somewhere and the distributor would like to move them out. Sometimes they are "last year's" big item. No matter what they are, they are often business gifts that will be appreciated by your customers and clients for a fraction of the cost of other promotional items.

Another way to find great deals on business gifts is look for items that can be purchased in bulk. Buying 50 to 100 of any particular item is fine, but you will sometimes be paying much more for each individual business gift than you would if you bought 500 to 1000 of the same product. Some items you purchase in small quantities can cost over 50% more than if you purchased them in bulk! Although this can take a large chunk out of your promotional budget for any given year, after a few years you will have a wide variety of business gifts to offer which will have cost you a fraction of the "full price".

The only other way you can get great deals on business gifts is shop around! Look on many different websites, sign up to receive several promotional distributors' catalogs, and even visit auction websites. Sometimes you can bid out promotional items you are looking for to multiple companies and accept the lowest or most reasonable bid you receive back. Just as with your business, those companies selling promotional products and business gifts want your business and may be willing to discount items in order to get that business relationship started.

In the end, the only way to truly find the best deals on the business gifts you choose for your promotional campaigns is to do your research. You cannot take shortcuts and go to one site to find the "great deals" you might be looking for. You or your representatives will have to look diligently for reputable promotional distribution companies, find the items you want with these companies, and ultimately purchase in a quantity you can afford.

The time you spend finding the "great deals" can actually save you a lot in the long run. Paying someone for a few hours of time doing the research can save you hundreds, even thousands, of dollars on your business gifts and promotional give aways! What is best about finding the "great deals" is that your customers and clients won't be able to tell the difference between the lower priced items and the expensive items other companies may be giving away!

How to Find a Musician's Warehouse

As a musician you know that it can be expensive to find the items that you need. However, you will want to know how you can go about finding a musicians warehouse to help you out. Once you know how to find these your going to be able to save yourself a substantial amount of money on the instruments that you need.

One way to find these places is going to by looking at the various web sites. By searching on the web you are going to find that many of these locations exist. Some of them might be close enough to you that you can go and see what they have, but at other times they might be located far away from you. If they are then you could end up getting the deals off of the web site since many of these places will have a site that you can order off of as well.

Another way to help you find these is by talking to fellow musicians. You might find that other people that you have played with in the past or even are currently playing with have used these places. If they have then you could find out where it is located at and be able to use them as well.

Something else to consider doing will be to look in the phone book to see if you can find any of these places. The phone book might have some of these listed if they are local to you, but you might find that they are away from where you are and that could present a problem in that you just find your normal music stores here.

While you might know that all of the instruments that your going to be using will be expensive you will want to know that if you find a musicians warehouse the cost can be reduced drastically. However, the problem that many people are going to run into is not knowing how to find one of these places to enjoy the lower costing items.

The Factors That Determine the Price of Certified Premium Grade A Shea Butter

***This article addresses the factors that determine the price of Shea Butter that has been rigorously tested and certified as Certified Premium Grade A through an independent testing lab. This article does not address the factors that determine the pricing for Grade B, C, D, F, ungraded and/or Refined Shea Butter. Any references to "Shea Butter or "Butter" in this article are referencing Certified Premium Grade A Shea Butter.***

The quantities of the Grade A Shea being purchased in the market can vary from a few ounces, to a ton or more. If one is in the business of handcrafting skincare products from Shea, or just importing the shea butter to re-sell, the price of the butter can be anywhere from from $7/lb to $25/lb.

The price of Grade A Shea depends on several factors. These factors, not in any particular order, include:

Quantity being purchased
Where it is coming from (direct from Africa, or from a warehouse) and the age of the Butter
Infrastructure/Conditions in the country that the product is coming from
Relationship of the buyer and the seller
Import Duties
Cost of shipping
Season of the year
Markup Percentage

We will examine each of these items individually.

Quantity being purchased: Usually, the more being purchased, the better the pricing one can get. If one purchases a ton of Shea, they will get a better deal than the person that is purchasing 100 lbs and they will in turn get a better deal than the person that is purchasing 10lbs.

Where it is shipping from (direct from Africa, or from a warehouse) and Age of Butter: A good batch of Shea Butter has a shelf life of 1 ½ to 2 years. It should be used within that timeframe to ensure that the healing properties of the butter remain intact.

If a customer is ordering more than 100lbs of shea, more than likely it will need to be shipped direct from Africa. Customers ordering in large quantities should ask their Shea Butter vendor for a Lab Analysis Certificate containing the DATE the Shea Butter was tested. The older the butter, the better the price discounts as the wholesaler just wants to get that butter off of their hands. But, the older the butter, the lesser quality that butter is and ultimately that customer is the one that loses in the deal.

Infrastructure and/or condition of the roads in the African country that the product comes from: Shea trees do not grow near the coastal ports in Africa. And, unfortunately, in most Shea Butter producing countries, the infrastructure does not always support heavy trucks traveling on the roads. Also, some Shea Butter varieties are grown in East Africa. Even though this Shea is softer, and somewhat more desirable to consumers using the raw form, it is more expensive to obtain, due to political instability in those countries. All of these factors can contribute to higher transportation costs of the butter.

Relationship of the buyer with the seller: Sometimes, sellers will give price discounts to buyers that have been doing business with them for set periods of time. It is a good idea to build a solid relationship with one or two reliable suppliers. That way, one can enjoy the benefits of consistent, high quality butter and favorable pricing every time.

Import Duty: Shea coming from African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) approved countries has no import duty on as part of the AGOA agreement. AGOA offers incentives for African countries to continue their efforts to open their economies and build free markets. However, a few African Shea producing countries are not AGOA approved and Shea Butter coming from those countries is subject to an import duty.

Cost of shipping the Shea: This is one of the biggest factors concerning the price of Grade A Shea Butter. At the time this article was written, the approximate cost to ship anywhere from one to 18 tons of Shea Butter from West Africa is about $5,000 USD for shipping via the sea and about twice that by air. The actual butter itself costs between $6 USD and $8 USD per pound, or $6,000 USD to $8,000 USD. To import 1 ton of Shea into the US it costs approximately between $11,000 USD and $13,000 USD.

Grade A Shea is lab tested and "fingerprinted" before leaving Africa and is re-tested and fingerprint verified when it enters US ports to assure it meets quality standards and the butter that one has ordered is the same butter that arrives. This is also an aid to discourage "bait and switch". There is a cost to this testing, but the benefits far outweigh the cost, as the testing will ensure that the butter is the highest quality available-with the longest shelf life.

The cost of shipping also has to take into consideration the US seaport that the Shea arrives in. The seaports vary, but Shea can arrive in the ports of New York, Seattle, Baltimore and Los Angeles just to name a few. Once the butter arrives from Africa, it has to be delivered by rail, air or truck to its final destination. As one can imagine, it is more expensive for the butter to be delivered to the West Coast, than to the East Coast since Africa is a shorter distance to the East Coast than the West.

Season of the year: If one orders Shea Butter during the hot US summer months, the Shea needs to be transported on refrigerated trucks. Although not prohibitively expensive, this cost is added to the cost of the butter, steering it more towards the $8 USD per pound mark.

Markup percentage: An importer of Shea Butter has the freedom to markup their freshly imported Shea Butter however much they desire, but usually, its $1-$3 USD per pound. So, if one is interested in importing 1 ton (1000lbs) Certified Premium Grade A Shea Butter, the cost for the importer will be between $7 USD and $13 USD per pound from Africa to their warehouse. This justifies the retail price of Grade A Butter being between $14 USD and $22 USD per pound retail.

Of course, there are other factors that determine the cost of shea, but the ones listed above are the most important. The prices quoted in this article reflect current market values (as of March, 2010) and it should be noted that the price of the product fluctuates by present market conditions.
